ABOUT ME

Lets check what the people said about me!

“Marvellous Swing” – “Mumbles” Albai is killer on the harmonica, as yours truly stated earlier....... it shines through with brassy brilliance."

"One of the standout tracks is Walter “Shakey” Horton’s instrumental “Easy”,.....The harp blowing here as throughout the entire CD is top notch. The other instrumental, Little Walter Jacobs’ “Off The Wall” is superb as well."

Blues Blast Magazine, USA

“...un répertoire de classiques, et des méthod esd’enregis-trement frustesà dessein. Le son est au rendez-vous, en particulier celui de l’harmoniciste Lorenzo Albai.”
Soul Bag, France

“That language lives in Jesus On A Tortilla. Gone To Main Street will take listeners on a journey back to the world of live mono recordings where music was made in the moment and represents, to my ears anyway, a beautiful example of pure artistic expression.”

My Original story

I started playing the harmonica in 2010, and I haven’t stopped since! I feel incredibly lucky, as I’ve always encountered the right people at the right place and time—people who helped me grow and improve, both musically and personally.

Musicians, friends, heroes, and art directors have all contributed to expanding my musical language, influences, and the way I view the blues scene.

Over the years, step by step, my playing improved. I had the chance to bring my music from my home country, Italy, to stages across Switzerland, France, Spain, Luxembourg, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Poland.

I've been fortunate to perform with many outstanding blues artists, including Lurrie Bell, Aki Kumar, Greg Izor, Peter Struijk, Hein Meier, Texas Slim, Victor Puertas, and Johnny Burgin. In 2011, I founded my band Jesus On a Tortilla—a Chicago blues quartet with which I recorded two albums that received critical acclaim from blues reviewers across Europe and the United States.

In 2019, I was proud to sign an endorsement deal with Seydel. Since then, I’ve been honored to officially represent this exceptional harmonica company, with the 1847 model being my instrument of choice.

In 2022, I launched a new project with Andrea Mandelli called The Goodfellas, which focuses on prewar and early electric blues.

I chose the blues—specifically, Chicago blues—because of the deep, dynamic relationship between the harmonica and the band. Unlike in many modern blues styles, in Chicago blues, the harmonica doesn’t just play along; it weaves in and out, phrasing and interacting with the other instruments to create the overall sound.
